National Children’s Month
The theme of the 2025 National Children's Month, “OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!” is a reminder that children have the right to enjoy the world and to grow, learn, and dream, free of fear. In the age of technology, our children are exposed to risk and danger, not only in physical places but also online; hence, the increased urgency of the declaration to end Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) cannot be overstated. The theme highlights that the protection of children is not just a social responsibility but a moral duty for all.
The government has an important role to play in safeguarding children from the risks and dangers that exist not only in our communities but also in cyberspace. The Anti-OSAEC Act and the establishment of dedicated cybercrime units demonstrate the government's commitment to minimize and eliminate online exploitation of children. Equipped with the skills to monitor cases, take action upon reports, and remove content that harms children physically and online, the DSWD, PNP, NBI, DICT, and other relevant agencies are working together to protect and defend the dignity and rights of children, both online and offline. Digital literacy programs have also equipped families with ongoing learning experiences to help them understand how to keep children safe online and further support proactive protection.
Although laws and programs are beneficial, they don't guarantee a safe experience for every child unless communities, schools, and parents work together to ensure safety for every child. The government can protect children in communities more effectively if everyone is involved—parent(s) can report abusive content, adults can instruct children on how to safely act online, and everyone in the community can raise awareness about the dangers. By everyone participating, the society became more engaged which grows the weight and sustainability of the fight against OSAEC.
Ultimately, the theme is a call to action. It reminds us that every child has the right to safety, freedom, and respect. Standing against OSAEC and CSAEM is not only about punishing people in conflict with the law, but creating the conditions for all children to grow confidently and safely in a society that values child well-being. Protecting children today creates a brighter and safer tomorrow for the whole nation.
