Elpidio Quirino

 In the life of President Elpidio Quirino, one can see how someone from a humble background can attain the highest position of leadership of a nation. He was born in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, into a farming family, and he had a difficult upbringing. He studied hard in school and was convinced that education was the way out of a difficult life. Experiencing early challenges framed his strong-spirited personality and the need to serve the ordinary Filipinos.  Prior to his presidency, Quirino built a repertoire of public service in his life. He trained first to be a lawyer, then ventured into the world of politics - eventually becoming a representative, senator, and Vice President. What I appreciated was that Quirino never gave up on his fight for his country even when it was occupied by the Japanese and his wife and children were killed.   The theme of the 2025 National Children's Month, “OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!” is a reminder that children have the right to enjoy the world and to grow, learn, and dream, free of fear. In the age of technology, our children are exposed to risk and danger, not only in physical places but also online; hence, the increased urgency of the declaration to end Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) cannot be overstated. The theme highlights that the protection of children is not just a social responsibility but a moral duty for all. The government has an important role to play in safeguarding children from the risks and dangers that exist not only in our communities but also in cyberspace. The Anti-OSAEC Act and the establishment of dedicated cybercrime units demonstrate the government's commitment to minimize and eliminate online exploitation of children.
